The New York Giants are kicking off training camp this week. As the team reports, some players report injured. On day one of camp, the Giants placed a number of players on the PUP (physically unable to perform) and NFI (non-football injury) lists. Second-year edge rusher Azeez Ojulari was one of those players as he is nursing a tweaked hamstring. With Ojulari not participating in practice, there are more opportunities for backups to shine. Quincy Roche should make the most of this opportunity and fight to prove that he is quality pass-rushing depth.

What Quincy Roche brings to the Giants

The Giants signed Quincy Roche in the middle of the 2021 season. Roche was a 2021 sixth-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers despite having a third-round projection pre-draft. Roche then failed to make the Steelers’ regular season roster and wound up on the waiver wire. The Giants were lucky enough to claim Roche and he went on to have a solid rookie season.

Quincy Roche played in 14 games for the New York Giants in 2021. He also started three games as the Giants dealt with injuries on the edge. Roche’s increased playing time gave him extra opportunities to prove his worth and he did rise to the occasion. The sixth-round rookie out of Miami recorded 38 combined tackles on the year with 5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

The Giants had Quincy Roche on the field for 401 total snaps in 2021. He missed just one tackle on the season and managed to total 14 pressures (1-per-game). Solid production for a late-round rookie that New York claimed off the waiver wire in September. Roche showed potential and is obviously a player that could compete for more snaps as a rotational pass-rusher this season.

The highlight of Quincy Roche’s rookie season was his performance in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders. This was a standout victory for the Giants last year. To wrap this game up, Quincy Roche sacked Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, forcing a fumble and sealing the victory for the Giants.

Quincy Roche did not take the league by storm or anything in 2021. But he did prove to be a quality rotational piece for New York. He rose to the occasion last season, and with another opportunity present for Roche to prove himself this summer, the 22-year-old pass-rusher could once again prove to be a quality player for Big Blue.
