The preseason will be the first chance for the New York Giants to evaluate new rookies and free agency additions in an actual game situation, as well as a chance to evaluate how returning players have improved or regressed, and we now know which opponents they’ll face and when. Of course, two of those opponents were already a given, as the Giants playing the Jets and the Patriots in the preseason is something of a tradition.

However, the new information is the dates and the order that the games will be played in. The Jets are the first opponent and the Giants will open the preseason with a two game home stand starting with that matchup. They’ll face the Chicago Bears in the second week before going on the road for back to back games for the second half of the preseason.

One of those games will be in Cincinnati, against the Bengals. The other one will be in New England, and will take place at the very end of August, the last month before the regular season begins.

The preseason is ignored by many more casual fans but things could get very interesting if the Giants do draft a quarterback such as Dwayne Haskins Jr. or Drew Lock, as this would be the first time when a new quarterback would get playing time.

Additionally, it looks like Eli Manning will start this entire season, meaning the preseason is most likely the only time when a rookie would get time to command the offense as a starter.

Still, while there’s no guarantee the Giants will have a new quarterback waiting in the wings by the time the preseason rolls around, there is a guarantee that they’ll have some new players from both trades and the draft, and the period of signing undrafted free agents following it. These games may not be that important to the average viewer, but for players, they can determine just who makes the roster.
