The New York Giants have a new quarterback for the rest of the season. At least, that’s what it looks like based on the current circumstances and the reports that are coming out. We already know what Mike Glennon can do, as well as what he can’t do, and it hasn’t been impressive. Jake Fromm, on the other hand, gave some life to the offense after coming in for a handful of snaps after Glennon was pulled last week.
According to the New York Post, the Giants are planning to ride the hot hand and give Fromm the start against Philadelphia on Sunday. If they do make this move, it will be Fromm’s first career start after the Giants signed him earlier this year from the Buffalo practice squad.
The Giants are planning to give Fromm his first career start Sunday against the Eagles, multiple sources told The Post. That scenario was not in the cards when the Giants signed the second-year quarterback off the Bills’ practice squad on Nov. 30, but since then Daniel Jones’ neck injury did not heal as fast as initially anticipated, ending his season, and veteran backup Mike Glennon played poorly in three fill-in starts.
It remains to be seen whether Fromm will play well enough to move himself up the depth chart above Glennon, but the team has nothing to lose at this point from evaluating him. There’s not many games left, and it even seems like the players are looking to next season at this point.
If Fromm performs well during this stretch, it may just see him become the actual backup quarterback next year assuming Daniel Jones makes a full recovery and returns to the starting job.
