2018 wasn’t the friendliest year to New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and it looks like 2019 could start off on a bad note too. According to TMZ, Beckham, as well as Drake and one other associate, are being sued for their role in an altercation at the Delilah nightclub in West Hollywood.

Bennett Sipes claims to have been attacked by Younes Bendjima, Kourtney Kardashian’s ex who was at the club with Beckham and Drake when the altercation happened. Sipes says that the attack has left him with “extreme mental anguish and physical pain,” and is now suing because of it.

However, you shouldn’t jump to conclusions about Beckham just yet. There are multiple versions of the story, and it’s hard to tell at this point which one is the truth. When reporting on the initial incident last year, TMZ claimed that other sources supported Beckham’s group and claimed that Bennett was in the wrong.

Sources connected with the group say Sipes was the aggressor in the VIP area, and incited them as they left. They also say Drake and Odell had nothing to do with the fight.

That doesn’t change the fact, though, that this is undeniably bad press for Beckham and is another bad incident during a bad past few months. Beckham missed the last four games of the 2018 season because of a quad injury, and slightly under performed statistically, failing to get double-digit touchdowns for the second straight season.

This comes after Beckham signed a $95M contract in the 2018 offseason, which places larger expectations on him going forward. Giants fans can only hope that the lawsuit is resolved quickly, during the offseason, and not later on when it’s time for the regular season to become the focus.
