New York Giants tight end Evan Engram’s third year will go down as another one plagued with problems, as the tight end has failed to stay on the field for most of the year and will head in for surgery on his foot soon after a string of missed games due to the injury. This wouldn’t be the first time Engram has gone out injured but this time is one of the most notable because of the length of time Engram has spent out after already missing time earlier in the year.

It’s also not a great sign at this point that the injury will require surgery, and the timing couldn’t have been worse for Engram, who was also placed on the IR list recently. This foot injury and subsequent surgery comes around the time that Engram will compete for the Giants to pick up his fifth year contract option, something which isn’t necessarily a given at this point – the Giants may have shown enough faith in Engram so far to not move him despite his troubles, but there’s no telling how that confidence will do following a surgery and rehab process.

The surgery is set to be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson, in Green Bay. “It’s unfortunate. Definitely wanted to get back and get back out there with the team. Didn’t really go as planned recovery wise, and just got to shut it down,” Engram said about the situation.

But despite that, the tight end is sure that he’ll be ready in time for training camp next year. “One hundred percent, yeah. From the window they gave me, I’ll be more than ready for training camp. Like I said, just going to attack the process and attack each day. Just try to get back as soon as possible,” he stated.

Engram has long shown potential to be one of the top tight ends in the league but between problems catching the ball and injuries which have kept him off the field, his stock may be declining – will the Giants make a trade in the offseason of 2020 that would see them get a return before Engram’s value drops further?

That may depend on who the General Manager is this offseason, but to know for sure, we’ll just have to wait and see.
