The New York Giants have overachieved in the 2022 season with a 5-1 record through six weeks. Among the players who have propelled the Giants to their early string of victories is defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence. The Giants are enjoying a breakout season from Dexter Lawrence as the fourth-year defensive lineman is on his way to an All-Pro season.

Dexter Lawrence dominating for the New York Giants in 2022

Dexter Lawrence is playing football at an elite level right now. The 2019 seventeenth-overall draft pick is in the midst of a breakout campaign. Lawrence has utterly dominated his opposition so far this season. He has already matched his career-high single-season sack total in just six weeks.

Through six weeks of the 2022 season, Dexter Lawrence has already totaled four sacks, 22 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, and 10 quarterback hits. According to PFF, Dexter Lawrence is the fourth-highest-graded defensive lineman in the NFL so far this season with an overall grade of 90.3.

Originally perceived to be a two-down defensive lineman, Dexter Lawrence has developed his game and become an every-down player. The Giants have featured Lawrence more frequently on third down than in years past, but defensive coordinator Wink Martindale explains that it is no easy task taking such a talent off of the field:

“But when he’s playing as well as he is, it’s so hard to — It’s like if you had a Rolls-Royce, wouldn’t you want to drive it everywhere? It’s just, he’s playing really well. And he wants to go back in. We’re going to try to peel back on some of those reps if we can; it always depends on where we’re at in a game.”

The Giants will face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon as they look to improve their record to 6-1. Dexter Lawrence will attempt to continue his streak of dominance and lead the Giants to their fourth-straight win. As a dominant force on the New York Giants’ defense, the team will be relying on Dexter Lawrence to propel the defense to success and disrupt Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
