The New York Giants are off to a hot start in the 2022 regular season. The Giants beat the Bears at home on Sunday after the defense held Chicago to 12 points and zero touchdowns on the day. The main catalyst to the defense’s success this season has been defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence. Dexter Lawrence is dominating this season as both a pass-rusher and a run-defender.

Dexter Lawrence is dominating for the Giants this season

After being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Dexter Lawrence has spent his NFL career as an under-appreciated member of the New York Giants defense. This offseason, the Giants picked up the fifth-year option on Lawrence, guaranteeing his standing with the team through next season. But after this year, Lawrence seems to be in line for a contract extension. In fact, Dexter seems to be playing his way to a big payday.

Dexter Lawrence has been utterly dominant through the first four weeks of this season. He has already totaled two sacks and 16 combined tackles on the year along with seven quarterback hits. Lawrence is currently the fourth-highest graded interior defensive lineman by PFF with a 90.0 overall grade through four games.

Big Dexy put together a stellar performance on Sunday. According to Pro Football Focus, Dexter Lawrence tallied eight quarterback pressures from the interior against the Chicago Bears in Week Four. He recorded five hurries, one hit, and two sacks. This clears his previous career high in pressures by two.

This season, Lawrence has already recorded 15 total pressures and five run-stops. He has been a destructive force in the interior of the Giants’ defensive line through four weeks of the 2022 season. The New York Giants are winning games and their defense is a big part of the reason why. Dexter Lawrence has been a stand-out player in the unit, dominating, taking his game to the next level this season, and propelling the New York Giants defense toward success.
