The New York Giants wrapped up their second practice of training camp on Thursday morning. The offense made lots of big plays during team drills as QB Daniel Jones continued to look like he is in mid-season form already.
The Giants’ offense produced a plethora of big plays on the seventh day of training camp. Jones continued to put the ball on the money, connecting on a number of deep passing plays during team drills.
“I really think he’s done a nice job, but he’s got a lot of things to work on just like we all do,” defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said of standout rookie CB Tre Hawkins.
Rookie WR Jalin Hyatt is continuing to be a daily practice standout. He turned in another stellar practice on Thursday, hauling in a few deep balls from Jones and demonstrating his ability to run complex routes. Hyatt has been dominant at Giants camp. The third-round draft pick is looking like a steal and a player that could be in contention for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award during the regular season.
The highlight of the day was made by Hyatt as he hauled in a DEEP touchdown reception in double coverage after Jones uncorked a bomb downfield.
“The Giants took a chance on me in the third round, and I want to make the most of it,” Hyatt said after practice. “I want to show them why they drafted me.”
Fourth-year CB Darnay Holmes has struggled throughout training camp. There is an ongoing “open competition” at slot cornerback and Holmes seems to be falling behind. Meanwhile, second-year CB Cor’Dale Flott has been running with the first team after bulking up this offseason.
The coaching staff has been tinkering with the offensive line throughout training camp and went with a newly configured starting five on Thursday. RG Mark Glowinski ran with the second team all day, allowing Ben Bredeson to take first-team snaps on the right side. The new first-team offensive line configuration is as follows:
