It’s well known that the New York Giants are looking for a left tackle to take the spot of the troublesome Nate Solder this offseason, but the team could also end up in a position where they have to sign or draft a tackle on the other side of the offensive line or risk ending up with a gap in their depth chart.

That’s because according to Mike Floro from Pro Football Talk, the Giants could lose Mike Remmers to free agency after bringing him in last season on a one year deal, where he came over likely due to the influence of Pat Shurmur. Shurmur was Remmers’ offensive coordinator in Minnesota, and now that Shurmur is out in New York, it makes sense that Remmers could follow after him and depart as well.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Remmers likely will be heading to the open market, because it’s unlikely he’ll be re-signing with the Giants before free agency begins.

Remmers started most of the season for the Giants and was never a dominating player but on the other hand, was an improvement from what the Giants had at the spot previously in Ereck Flowers. Currently, the only names on the depth chart at right tackle behind Remmers are journeyman Eric Smith and second year player George Asafo-Adjei, neither of whom seem to be starting quality.

It means you can expect the Giants to potentially acquire not one but two tackles during this year’s free agency and draft – one to take Solder’s spot as the left tackle, and another one to replace the departing Remmers.

Which names the Giants do bring in, however, will likely depend largely on whether they use the number four overall pick or trade down.
