New York Giants: Chase Young Runs Back Comments On Draft

The New York Giants may have picked up their first win in many weeks on Sunday when they defeated the Miami Dolphins, in what is very likely the sendoff game for Eli Manning, but that doesn’t mean the focus isn’t still looking forward for most fans. The Draft in particular is the date that’s circled on most calendars, as it will mark one of the largest chances for the Giants to improve from their terrible record this year.

One of the very highest rated prospects, of course, is Chase Young. The Ohio State defensive end has 16.5 sacks in 2019 and was one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy this year, the latter being an impressive feat for a defensive player. Young may just go number one overall but is nearly guaranteed to be one of the highest picks regardless.

But Giants fans received a scare when Young seemingly announced his intention to head back to college for his last year instead of declaring early and heading to the NFL.

While that scenario would have possibly thrown the Giants for a loop when it comes to their draft strategy, it’s one that they might not have to deal with. Young hasn’t declared for the draft yet, but the decision hasn’t actually been made yet according to new information.

“That moment was just a real spontaneous moment. It caught me off guard. I’m not even really worried about anything in the future. I’m just worried about beating Clemson right now,” Young said about his earlier comment.

“I just got to talk about it with my family and just pray. I feel like God will tell me the answer,” he added.

Young’s stock might not go higher than it is right now, so it does seem reasonable to expect him to declare for the Draft. And if that happens, it might just be clear who the Giants will be targeting – if their latest win doesn’t push their draft pick out of the range where they would be able to select the draft’s top defensive player.
