Some have called the New York Giants the best 3–7 team in the NFL, and you wouldn’t be mistaken. The Giants have taken significant leaps forward in their development and progression as a team under new head coach Joe Judge. Plenty of factors are working against them, but they’ve managed to overcome challenges and prioritize fundamentals.

Judge’s style and mentality fits the Giants perfectly, after having two head coaches that were unable to contain the player’s personalities and steer them in the proper direction. Judge offers a voice of discipline and a true leader who keeps everybody in line.

With Marc Colombo, offensive line coach, being fired last week, the Giants took it in stride and moved forward quickly with an alternative. While firing a coach midseason is never a good sign, Judge showed that he is not willing to favor any player or coach. Everybody is treated equally, which is exactly how a team should operate under new leadership.

Listing the factors ‘against’ the New York Giants:

-New offensive line

-New schemes, offense, and defense

-New secondary

-Covid-19

-No Saquon

-New secondary

-New head coach

-No McKinney

At one point, the Giants were in last place in the worst division in football, but now they are just one game out of first place. The Philadelphia Eagles have a .350 win percentage, with the remainder of the division at .300.

The Giants are 3-4 against divisional opponents and on a two-game win streak. Having beat Washington twice and the Eagles once, they must overcome Dallas in week 17, which could be the deciding factor in the division.

Luckily, the Giants are making strides in the right direction, especially quarterback Daniel Jones who hasn’t turned the ball over during their mini win streak. They are set to face off against the Cincinnati Bengals in week 12, who just lost star quarterback Joe Burrow for the season due to a torn ACL.

With the schedule getting easier for Big Blue, their chances of winning the NFC East continue to improve as well. They are now rated at a 32% probability of winning the east, according to Football Outsiders. Other models have them between the 25 and 35% range, but that is still an astronomical difference based on their probability several weeks ago.

If Judge and his team continue to show signs of progress and consistency, the Giants could enter the postseason as a rising team with untapped potential. If they manage to make the playoffs, it will be a true testament to the work Judge has done in just one season.
