New York Giants: Another Game, Another Important Injury

The New York Giants picked up their first loss in the past few weeks against the Minneosta Vikings, after stringing together back to back wins during their first two games with Daniel Jones at the helm, but the loss itself wasn’t the only thing that the team suffered. The Giants have struggled in the injury department ever since the offseason when a number of players went down early in training camp, and it seems like every week, there’s another player out.

This time, it’s another one at an important position.

Wayne Gallman was taken out of the game with a concussion after replacing Saquon Barkley at running back after Barkley’s injury – while Barkley nearly came back in time for this game, despite suffering a high ankle sprain against Tampa in week three, that didn’t happen as the team ruled Barkley out during the late buildup to the game.

Gallman had a good performance against the Redskins and helped lead the team to the win in a game where Daniel Jones had more interceptions than touchdowns, but didn’t get to play all that much against the Vikings due to the concussion, which leaves the team with two running backs that aren’t injured – Jon Hillman and Elijhaa Penny.

Saquon Barkley could potentially come back during the next week of the season, but that depends on whether or not the team is comfortable with changing his recovery schedule. Barkley has progressed much faster than initially expected but still wasn’t healthy enough to play against the Vikings, and obviously, risking a franchise player by bringing him back soon after an injury is a hard decision to make.

It’s not known yet if Barkley will return or if the Giants will go into the next game’s preparations with just Hillman and Penny at running back – if that’s the case, signing a free agent is the likely outcome. Either way, it seems the Giants can’t catch a break with injuries, and one can hope that the next game brings no more of them for the Giants.
