New York Giants backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor was released from Hackensack Medical Center in New Jersey and will continue to nurse a rib injury sustained in Week 8 against the New York Jets.

Giants View Taylor as Week-to-Week With Rib Injury

ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter published the news via Twitter shortly after Taylor was sent home:

Taylor went down in the second quarter of the Giants’ 13-10 loss to the Jets after CJ Mosley and Quinton Jefferson delivered a vicious takedown that left the veteran QB wincing in pain upon impact.

Taylor was visibly shaken on the sidelines and was taken to the locker room before news broke that he needed to be hospitalized. Third-string QB Tommy DeVito took over for Taylor and went 2-7 for -1 passing yards, along with 12 yards rushing and a rush TD — the Giants’ only touchdown of the affair.

Moving forward, Taylor is now listed as week-to-week and will be closely monitored in his recovery process. The news comes on the heels of starting QB Daniel Jones being cleared for contact, offsetting the potentially devastating blow to an already depleted Giants offensive unit.

Taylor’s Efficient Play Needed Behind Daniel Jones & a Struggling Giants Offense

Taylor went 1-1 in two full starts prior to going down. The Giants lost a competitive 14-9 battle against the Buffalo Bills in his first run filling in for Jones before triumphing over the Washington Commanders in an NFC East rivalry matchup the following week.

The hope is that Taylor can make a speedy recovery. The Giants need his services behind Jones, as he’s thrown two touchdowns along with no interceptions while on the field.
