A 2025 NFL mock draft recently came in way too early, but has given the football world much to contemplate this summer.
Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network constructed a two-round mock draft on June 22 based off of updated evaluations of the NFL landscape and his outlook on top talent expected to enter the pool next year. He said this about the New York Giants, who he has earning, and trading the No. 2 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers for the right to take Georgia quarterback Carson Beck No. 1 overall:
“In this 2025 NFL Mock Draft, the Giants make a slight trade-up to block other quarterback-needy teams and ensure they get the preliminary QB1 of the 2025 class. Carson Beck‘s ability to win inside the pocket with anticipation, pace, touch, and layering is unmatched,” Cummings wrote.
Giants: Carson Beck showed out for Georgia in 2023 and could be their QB of the future
When thrown to the wolves for the first time in 2023, Beck did not suffer the fate of prey. The redshirt junior provided the Bulldogs with 3,941 passing yards, an astounding 24 passing touchdowns, and only six interceptions while completing 72.4 percent of his passes in 2023.
Beck’s elite precision inside the pocket placed him at No. 24 all-time with the 15th-highest single-season completion percentage in college football since 1956. Beyond that, Beck has shown great footwork, particularly with his drop back, as well as an ability to scramble out of the pocket and make dynamic plays with his arm or legs on the fly. Most impressively, Beck makes very quick decisions, proving that he can capitalize on the right reads and minimize the chances of him getting sacked, hurried, or pressured.

Giants’ rocky QB situation could see the franchise take a star passer in 2025 Draft
The Giants are rolling with QB Daniel Jones again in 2024 but have Drew Lock as a failsafe at QB2. Nevertheless, New York has had their reservations about Jones for several months running, while Lock has yet to put together a show-worthy NFL season in his career.
The 21-year-old Beck is looked at as one of the more elite quarterbacks coming out of college in recent memory. Given that the Giants missed out on the chance to take Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, or Drake Maye with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Beck could be their franchise QB of the future worth waiting a year for. The 6-4, 220-pound talent is also looked at as the biggest fish in 2025’s proverbial pond by ESPN and will jockey for that positioning next to Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Texans’ Quinn Ewers next season.
Should the Giants’ offensive line improve leaps and bounds from their historically poor 2023 showing and Jones or Lock deliver in the win column while minimizing mistakes in the air, the Giants may prioritize another position in the next draft. Should the opposite be the case, they may look to start scouting Beck early as they did Maye in 2023 for a power move for their future.
