New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is already wowing his coaching staff through the first leg of offseason training.

Jalin Hyatt breaking out at Giants OTAs

On Thursday, the Giants shared comments from their wide receivers coach Mike Groh, who said this to say in part about what he’s seen from Hyatt in OTA’s thus far:

“His growth, so far, a year removed from when he first got here is tremendous,” Groh raved. “All of the work that he put in, investing in his game — learning what, how, and why. He’s just a different guy. He’s got stronger here in the offseason.”

Hyatt went for 16.2 receiving yards per reception in his 2023 rookie outing in New York. He had three games with 75 or more REC yards on the campaign. Hyatt showed flashes of brilliance, particularly when he took home the NFC Offensive Rookie of the Week award for his 109-yard performance against the New England Patriots in Week 12.

The Tennessee product’s potential is what prompted Giants head coach Brian Daboll to feature him on the outside at the tail end of the year. Albeit, he also went through customary rookie woes. His three games of 75-plus yards were met with three duds and five other outings with less than 20 receiving yards.

Hyatt is showing signs of being on the brink of a breakout 2024 NFL campaign

No matter, Groh sees a different Hyatt out on the football field in their light workouts, which is a major positive considering that training camp has yet to commence. If Hyatt is able to translate his big-play potential over with an increase in snaps, he could find himself as a breakout candidate for next season.

The 22-year-old will be a major part of the Giants’ plans in 2024. He, alongside WR Wan’Dale Robinson, will put pressure on the coaching staff to see more playing time in a wide receiver depth chart headlined by 2024 No. 6 overall draft pick Malik Nabers and the Giants’ leading receiver from a season ago in Darius Slayton. Hyatt’s outlook appears bright amid Groh’s glowing remarks. Should Daboll see things the same way, Hyatt could have the potential to earn the WR2 slot in 2024.
