New York Giants wide receiver Allen Robinson had no reservations at the end of last year about returning for the 2024 NFL season.
Allen Robinson still has something left in the tank
Robinson, 30, was cut from the Pittsburgh Steelers after posting 34 receptions for 280 receiving yards in 17 starts in 2023. The former 2015 NFL receiving touchdowns leader could have hung up his cleats following his quiet showing, but instead chose to run things back in New York, saying this about his decision per Michael Eisen of giants.com:
“I knew right away I was playing again,” he said. “In my eyes, I know for sure I’ve got a couple more years in me. Last year, kind of stepping into the season, I wasn’t quite 100 percent. I was coming off a foot injury. So, being able to have this offseason to really be healthy and train and do all those things, I knew for sure. There was no doubt for me as far as playing wise.”
Giants: Allen Robinson could be a valuable piece in 2024
Robinson is now four years removed from his third career 1,000-yard season. He went for 1,250 REC yards in 2020 with the Chicago Bears. Though the former 2015 Pro Bowler has quieted down in recent years, he gives the Giants an experienced pass-catcher who can still produce on the field and also help their young talents on the depth chart come along.
Robinson is ready to lead in the locker room and produce at full strength for the Giants
New York will feature rookie Malik Nabers on the outside opposite either Wan’Dale Robinson or their leading receiver from last season in Darius Slayton, who just rejoined the team at OTA’s on Tuesday after he held out in search of a contract extension.
Robinson will compete for time as a spot receiver alongside second-year wideout Jalin Hyatt. There figure to be opportunities for the veteran to get his hands on passes in the event of injury or one of the Giants’ young guys experiencing a slump in his soon-to-be 11th season. That is of great importance for Robinson, who values “being able to get around young guys, and really spread my knowledge, spread my experience and really kind of help elevate the young guys each and every day.”
As for his own production on the field, Robinson is looking forward to entering the season fully healthy and being ready to give the Giants his best on the upcoming campaign.
