The New York Giants need to be better in 2025. Head coach Brian Daboll barely survived his 3-14 record in 2024. Now, he has one more season to prove himself.
Giants’ Brian Daboll named among the top head coaches on the hot seat in 2025
Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus recently named Daboll to a list of the 10 NFL head coaches on the hottest of seats entering 2025.
“Daboll was one of the coaches most firmly in the spotlight after a listless 2024 season in which New York finished 3-14 and with the third-overall pick,” Locker explained. “…Playing in a formidable NFC East, the Giants aren’t anticipated to make significant waves in 2025. If Big Blue can win at least seven games, it may be enough for Daboll to keep his job — especially if Dart offers promise by the end of the season. But if 2025 finishes similarly to 2024 for the organization, then a cleaning of the house will be expected.”

It’s been tough sledding for Daboll and the Giants over the last two seasons. In his first season with the team, Big Blue exceeded all expectations, going 9-7-1, earning a playoff berth, and winning their first playoff game since Super Bowl XLVI.
His efforts that season earned Daboll a Head Coach of the Year award. The future looked bright. But it turned out to be shockingly dim, as the Giants have gone 9-25 since then. Now, the heat is on, and Daboll needs to prove himself again.
Could Daboll keep his job going into 2026?
Daboll’s seat has arguably cooled, however, after a successful offseason for him and general manager Joe Schoen. The duo made significant upgrades to the roster, especially at the quarterback position.
One of those quarterback upgrades, rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart, could serve as a lifeline for Daboll. The Giants hired Daboll in large part due to the success he had developing Josh Allen into an MVP-level quarterback during his time as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator.

Dart is unlikely to see much playing time this season. But Giants ownership will likely want to see Daboll get a chance to coach him at one point or another, which could prompt them to retain him going into 2026, even if this season is not a major success.
Ultimately, Daboll has had his growing pains, but his impressive run in 2022 and the presence of a talented rookie quarterback should help keep his seat cool for the season. But if the losses pile up again, that seat warmer could get dialed up.
