Tomorrow night in the headliner of UFC Vegas 62, we are going to see a battle between two of the best flyweights in the world. The fifth ranked contender Alexa Grasso (14-3) will look to remain perfect at 125 pounds as she takes on sixth ranked Viviane Araujo (11-3).
Whoever wins this bout should be in a good position given the current state of the women’s flyweight division. The promotion is looking for new challengers to Valentina Shevchenko and the champion hasn’t fought either one of these ladies.
As mentioned, Alexa Grasso is looking to stay perfect at 125 pounds. When she made her UFC debut, she was fighting at 115 pounds. It became clear that the weight cuts were hurting her performances. She decided to move up to 125 pounds and hasn’t looked back.
She’s currently riding a three-fight winning streak and her last two wins came against Joanne Wood and Maycee Barber. Standing across from her tomorrow night will be the tough Viviane Araujo.
Since making her UFC debut, Araujo has gone an impressive 5-2. Her two losses came against former title challengers Katlyn Chookagian and Jessica Eye. Outside of those two, it’s been smooth sailing. She’s coming off a big win against Andrea Lee heading into tomorrow night.
UFC Vegas 62 Prediction
I think we are going to see a highly competitive striking matchup for the most part tomorrow night. If anyone takes the fight to the ground or at least tries to, it’s going to be Araujo, however, I don’t see it hitting the mat much.
With that, it’s going to come down to the striking. Araujo is more explosive in her attacks, but Grasso has such incredible timing and crispness with her striking. Over the course of five rounds, I love her in this matchup.
I don’t see there being a finish in the headliner of UFC Vegas 62. I think these two ladies will battle it out over five rounds. In those five rounds, I just think Grasso is going to land cleaner shots and she’ll have more volume. Add those two things together and I’m seeing something like a 49-46 decision for Grasso.
