The UFC is finalizing a big time matchup in the women’s flyweight division that could have title implications. Boxe Mag was the first to report that the promotion is in the process of finalizing a bout between “Blonde Fighter” Katlyn Chookagian (18-4) and Manon Fiorot (9-1).
The fight will take place at UFC Paris on September 3rd. Chookagian will try to play spoiler for Fiorot’s homecoming. This was the fight that Chookagian called for after her last win and it’s the fight that the UFC decided to run with.
We just saw Katlyn Chookagian less than two weeks ago at UFC Vegas 54. That night, she took on top strawweight contender Amanda Ribas. Ribas had a good showing, but Chookagian was slightly more effective in her striking and got the split decision win.
For Chookagian, it was her fourth straight win since she lost to Jessica Andrade. Chookagian has been trying to work her way back to a UFC title shot against Valentina Shevchenko. She had a shot against the champ in 2020 and was ultimately stopped.
However, she’s gone 5-1 since that loss and she’s looked incredibly solid as of late. If she can take out the surging Fiorot in front of her home country for her fifth straight win, it might be hard to deny her a title shot.
UFC Homecoming for Fiorot
After losing her professional MMA debut by split decision, Manon Fiorot has been perfect in her professional career. That includes her time inside the octagon. Fiorot made her UFC debut in January of 2021.
Since making her debut, she’s gone a perfect 4-0 which includes two stoppages. In her last fight, she took on former UFC title challenger Jennifer Maia. It was another really solid performance for Fiorot who picked up the unanimous decision victory.
Now, she’s getting the chance to fight in front of her home country. If she’s able to get a big win over Chookagian at UFC Paris, she might be in line for a title shot. Given the lack of fresh challengers for Valentina Shevchenko, Fiorot has a golden opportunity. It’s up to her on whether or not she’ll be able to cash in.
