In this first month of the year, the UFC has been very active working booking up their first four months of fights and they finalized another one today. MMA Junkie was the first to report that “King” Bobby Green (29-14-1) will take on Jared “Flash” Gordon (19-6) in April.
The fight will take place at a Fight Night on April 22nd. 2022 ended up being a really tough year for Bobby Green. He started out the year hot with a dominant win over Nasrat Haqparast. He chained that into a short-notice main event against now champion Islam Makhachev.
Of course, Green lost in the first round to the current champ. After that loss, he was supposed to fight Jim Miller over the summer. However, he popped for a banned substance which by all means was an accident and was suspended for six months. I don’t think anyone, including the UFC, believes that Green is a cheater, just made a mistake.
He returned for the final card of the year when he took on Drew Dober. In the first round of that fight, he busted Dober up with big shots. It looked like a Bobby Green decision win was coming until he got caught with a huge left hook that put him out. Now, he’ll look to snap this two-fight losing streak against Jared Gordon.
UFC Fight Night
Jared Gordon was the victim of arguably the worst decision of the year back at UFC 282. Gordon was tasked with fighting the hype machine known as Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett. All night long, Jared Gordon was getting the better of Pimblett.
Crisp striking and great distance control had Pimblett frustrated. The one knock on Gordon was his lackluster third round, but in my opinion, you could still give that round to him. There’s a way better argument for 30-27 Gordon than Pimblett winning.
23 out of 24 media members on MMA Decisions scored the bout for Gordon. Toss me in there as 24 of 25 if you want to. However, Pimblett got the nod from the judges unanimously. A heartbreaker for Jared Gordon who really deserved that win at UFC 282.
Now, he will look to bounce back. Overall, he’s 4-2 officially since he lost to Charles Oliveira back in 2019. Gordon is always going to bring the fight to his opponent and I can promise you that this one will be entertaining for the viewers.
