The UFC is close to finalize a big time matchup in the bantamweight division. MMA Fighting was the first to report yesterday that Rob Font (19-6) would be making his return next April when he takes on the surging young contender Adrian Yanez (16-3).
The bout is being penciled in for a UFC event on April 8th. For Rob Font, he’s going to be looking to snap a two-fight losing streak. The last time we saw Font was back in April when he took on Chito Vera. In that bout, Font landed more shots, but Vera did way more damage and that won him a decision.
Prior to that, Font was dominated by Jose Aldo. Back-to-back tough losses for Font after he was nearly in the picture for a title shot. Now, he steps back in terms of name recognition, but the competition isn’t that far of a drop off. Yanez is one of the best young bantamweights in the UFC.
UFC showcase for Yanez?
Adrian Yanez earned himself a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series back in 2020. Since earning that contract, he’s fought in the promotion five times and he’s been perfect. Only one fight has gone the distance thus far and that was a decision against Davey Grant.
Other than that decision with Grant, he’s 4-0 with four knockouts. Now, none of the opponents that Yanez has fought thus far are on the level of Rob Font. This is going to be a huge test for Yanez. The spring is looking like a big showcase for the bantamweight division with a bunch of big fights going down.
This is definitely one that UFC fans need to circle.
