One of the UFC‘s brightest prospects in the featherweight division is going to get the biggest test of his career. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report yesterday that the promotion was booking top unbeaten prospect Movsar Evloev (15-0) against “50K” Dan Ige (15-5).
The matchup will take place at a UFC event on June 4th. For Ige, this is a big opportunity for him to bounce back. Halfway through 2020, Ige looked like he was going to be in title contention in the UFC’s featherweight division.
After losing his UFC debut, Ige had won six fights in a row which included a decision win over Edson Barboza. These wins earned him a headlining fight against Calvin Kattar. Kattar was able to use his superior boxing to outpoint Ige over five rounds.
After that loss, Ige bounced back in a big way with a quick knockout win over Gavin Tucker. However, he’s lost two in a row since. It’s clear that Ige is a top ten featherweight in the UFC, but he keeps faltering against the top of the division. This is a big fight for Ige because if he loses, he will lose his spot in the top ten.
Big UFC Test
Standing across from Ige on June 4th is one of the more exciting prospects in the featherweight division. Russia’s Movsar Evloev has been perfect in his professional career. After starting things out a perfect 10-0, the UFC decided to sign Evloev to a contract.
He’s not been a disappointment. Since making his debut with the promotion, he’s gone a perfect 5-0. In his last fight, he took on the tough Hakeem Dawodu and was able to win a decision. That was a big win for Evloev and earned him a ranking in the UFC’s featherweight division.
Dan Ige is a big step up for the Russian. If Evloev is able to come in and defeat Ige in June, there will be no more layups. The road will only get tougher from here and we are going to learn a lot about Evloev when these two fight in June.
