The UFC has finalized a fun matchup in the women’s strawweight division. MMA Fighting was the first to report earlier this afternoon that the promotion had finalized a matchup between Angela “Overkill” Hill (13-11) and Virna Jandiroba (17-3).

The matchup will take place at a UFC Fight Night on May 14th. For Jandiroba, she’s going to be looking to bounce back after losing in her last fight. The last time we saw her was in October when she took on Amanda Ribas.

Jandiroba was outclassed on the feet and wasn’t able to get the fight to the ground where she really thrives. Ultimately, she lost a unanimous decision in an entertaining fight. Jandiroba was an Invicta FC champion and unbeaten when she entered the UFC a few years ago.

Since making her debut with the world’s premier MMA organization, she’s gone 3-3. However, all three of her losses have come against contenders inside the top ten. This is going to be a very good fight for Jandiroba to find out where she stands in the UFC’s strawweight division.

New UFC deal and fight for Hill

In addition to the fight getting announced, it was also announced that Angela Hill had resigned a multi-fight deal with the UFC. Angela Hill is on the back end of the rankings currently, however, she’s been one of the more unlucky fighters in recent memory.

In May of 2020, Hill looked like she was on the cusp of becoming a contender for the UFC strawweight title. She fought former title challenger Claudia Gadehla and lost a split decision. However, the majority of folks believe that she won that fight.

After that matchup, she took on Michelle Waterson in a UFC headliner. Once again, she lost by a razor close split decision. In December, she took on the tough Amanda Lemos and once again, lost a split decision. Hill is 1-4 in her last five, however, three of the losses have come via split decision.

There’s only one loss and that was her loss to Tecia Torres where it was clear that she lost. Had those three fights gone her way, she would be near the top of the UFC’s strawweight division. She comes into this fight having lost two in a row so she needs to get back on track against Jandiroba.
