UFC 303: Conor McGregor injury is not severe; Michael Chandler fight postponed

MMA: UFC 264-McGregor vs Poirier

The biggest star in combat sports will not be returning later this month at UFC 303. After a week and a half of rumors and speculation, Dana White took to social media last night and made the news official. Former two-division champion Conor McGregor (22-6) is out of the UFC 303 main event against Michael Chandler (23-8).

McGregor sustained an injury, but at this point, we don’t know what the injury is. Ariel Helwani reported last night that the injury to McGregor is not a serious injury. In fact, Helwani said that McGregor could fight in two months and earlier in the day had reported that the UFC is looking at new PPV dates for August and September to fit in a Conor McGregor fight.

UFC 303 Main Event Postponed

UFC 303 was already north of $20 million in terms of the live gate and that is owed to McGregor. He’s the biggest star in the sport and after nearly three years away, he’s still the biggest draw by a country mile. Losing McGregor is massive, but the promotion did a sensational job scrambling.

Alex Pereira – Jiri Prochazka 2 for the light heavyweight title is now the new main event. Diego Lopes and Brian Ortega have been added to the card in a banger of a matchup in the featherweight division. It’s been a helluva week for the UFC but they did a great job of pulling everything off.
