In the main event of UFC 300, the light heavyweight title was on the line. Light heavyweight champion and promotional superstar Alex Pereira (9-2) was looking to successfully defend his title for the first time as he took on former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill (12-1, 1 NC).
Jamahal Hill became the champion in January 2023 after dominating Glover Teixeira over five rounds in Brazil. It was Hill’s fourth straight dominant victory and he was gearing up to face Jiri Prochazka later in the year when he tore his achilles. The injury forced him to vacate the championship.
When Hill vacated the title, Prochazka faced Alex Pereira for the vacant title. Pereira knocked Prochazka out in the second round to win a second UFC title. Pereira had won middleweight gold in 2022 but moved up to light heavyweight after dropping the title earlier in the year. Hill was coming back to claim the title he never lost while Pereira was looking to prove he was the true kick at 205.
