PFL 4 2024 Preview: Heavyweights

Valentin Moldavsky

Tomorrow night the PFL’s 4 Regular Season event of 2024 goes down in Connecticut and there are some big time matchups on the card. The women’s flyweight division will also be featured, but the big boys will throw down as the heavyweight division takes center stage.

In the main event of the PFL card, former interim Bellator heavyweight champ Valentin Moldavsky (13-3) will take on Linton Vassell (24-9) for a second time. These two first fought at Bellator 292 when Moldavsky was a big betting favorite like he is tomorrow.

Vassell shocked Moldavsky by stopping him in the first round. Another finish like that would turn this season on it’s head. Moldavsky leads the heavyweights with six points following his brutal finish over Ante Delija. Vassell currently has no points after completely gassing out and getting stopped by Denis Goltsov (33-8) in the third round.

That third round win netted Goltsov four points which currently has him fourth in the standings. Goltsov will actually be taking on former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Thiago Santos (22-12) tomorrow night. Santos will be making his PFL and professional heavyweight debut as he’s stepping in for Sergey Bilostenniy (12-3).

Bilostenniy actually is fifth in the standings following his decision win over Blagoy Ivanov (19-7) but having withdrawn from this event, he will not make the PFL playoffs.

PFL Regular Season: Heavyweights

Given the lay of the land in regards to the PFL heavyweights, if Thiago Santos finishes Goltsov in the first round, he can actually earn a spot in the playoffs despite missing the first regular season event. As mentioned, Moldavsky is currently first with six points, but Daniel James (15-7-1) and Oleg Popov (17-1) are second with five points.

James was supposed to fight Tyrell Fortune (13-2) for a second time, but he had to pull out of the fight. Despite not fighting tomorrow night, there’s still a chance that James’ five points will be good enough to earn him a spot in the PFL Playoffs later this year.

Popov is set to take on Davion Franklin (6-2) tomorrow night. As you can see by the lay of the land, the heavyweight division is wide open and anyone can punch their ticket to the PFL Playoffs tomorrow night.
