Jorge Masvidal angling for his next UFC fight to be against Conor McGregor

Right now, two of the biggest stars in the UFC are in a little bit of limbo for different reasons. One of those stars is the BMF Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (35-16). Masvidal is stuck between a rock and a hard place in the welterweight division at the moment.

The last time we saw Masvidal was at UFC 272 when he had his grudge match with Colby Covington. Due to Covington’s superior wrestling, the fight was fairly one-sided with Masvidal taking the loss.

It was the third straight loss for Masvidal. Prior to the fight with Covington, Masvidal lost twice to Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title. The second time, he was knocked out cold by Usman.

Now, Masvidal is in an odd spot. On one hand, he can still be considered to be one of the best welterweights in the UFC. On the other hand, he’s 0-3 in his last three and looked to be out of his element against the two best in the world.

UFC Super Fight?

The other UFC star that is in limbo is the biggest star in the sport, Conor McGregor (22-6). The former two-division champion is working his way back from injury after breaking his leg in his fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

McGregor hasn’t fought since going 0-2 to Poirier in 2021. As mentioned, McGregor has slowly been working his way back into training. He’s put on a decent amount of muscle and has openly said that he wants his next fight to be at 170 pounds.

The only opponent McGregor has openly expressed interest in fighting is UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. However, with those fights not likely, maybe there’s a different super fight ahead for McGregor.

Masvidal and McGregor have gone back and forth in the media before. Yesterday (before deleting), McGregor insulted the UFC’s BMF and Masvidal responded saying that McGregor was either, “Too scared or too stupid to get this check,” referring to the two of them fighting.

Masvidal also told ESPN Deportes that he would break McGregor’s face if they fight. I mean, the fight makes all the sense in the world. Their star power would make for a massive fight and both men would get what they want with a win.

For McGregor, he would prove that he can compete with the best in the UFC’s welterweight division. For Masvidal, a win would get him back on track and get him ready for another run up to the top.
