Tonight, the UFC was hosting their first Fight Night in front of a sold out US crowd for the first time since the pandemic. In the main event we saw a heavyweight battle between Curtis “Razor” Blaydes (15-3) and Chris Daukaus (12-4).
Daukaus was looking to bounce back after he suffered his first loss in the UFC. After making his debut in 2020, Daukaus started out hot with five straight wins inside the octagon. All five of those coming via knockout.
That winning streak led him to a fight with Derrick Lewis where he was ultimately knocked out himself. Curtis Blaydes has put together a great run in the UFC. He’s 10-3, 1 NC in 14 fights but he’s only lost to the best of the best. He’s lost to Francis Ngannou twice and like Daukaus he was knocked out by Derrick Lewis.
UFC Columbus Recap
Round 1
The UFC Columbus main event kicks off with a touch of the gloves. Daukaus comes forward and lands a nice right hand over the top. Blaydes lands a low kick but Daukaus again lands a big right hand that gets Blaydes’ attention. Jab from Blaydes lands and he follows that with a big low kick.
Huge 1-2 from Blaydes backs up Daukaus. Right hand from Daukaus and a check left hook lands for Blaydes. Blaydes plotting forward and Daukaus tries to land. However, Blaydes gets the better of the exchange and then he lands another nice shot that seems to have frustrated Daukaus.
Low kick from Blaydes. Double jab from Blaydes snaps the head back of Daukaus. Daukaus pushes forward and throws some big punches. Lands but they were more glancing shots with nothing landing flush. Big power jab lands for Curtis Blaydes.
Jab and a left hook lands for Blaydes. Daukaus lands a clean right hand and then an accidental eye poke pauses the action. The action resumes but we are at the end of the round. Close first at UFC Columbus, but I lean towards Blaydes.
Round 2
Entering the second at UFC Columbus and I was shocked we didn’t see a takedown attempt from Blaydes in round one. Let’s see if that changes here. They meet in the center and Blaydes lands a massive right hand. Daukaus goes down and Blaydes is all over him. Big elbows and this one is over. Goodness gracious what a statement from Curtis Blaydes.
