UFC 303 goes down on June 29th and the co-main event was supposed to be Jamahal Hill (12-2, 1 NC) taking on Khalil Rountree (13-5). However, Rountree recently tested positive for a banned substance and received a two-month ban. With that in mind, the promotion shifted gears and looked for a replacement.

Today, they found that replacement. Christopher Reive was the first to report that Carlos Ulberg (10-1) will be stepping in for Rountree in taking on the former light heavyweight champion. Let’s start with discussing the former champion.

Jamahal Hill won the light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira in a dominant performance in January 2023. From there, the plan was for Hill to face Jiri Prochazka for the light heavyweight title. Unfortunately for Hill, he tore his achilles and was forced to vacate the title.

During that time, Alex Pereira knocked out Jiri Prochazka to win the vacant title. At UFC 300 last month, Hill returned to try and regain his title. Unfortunately for Hill, he got knocked out in the first round. Now, he’s anxious to get back in the win column and he’ll be taking on another elite striker.

Carlos Ulberg just fought a couple of weeks ago at UFC St. Louis. Ulberg was in the co-main event against Alonzo Menifield. Menifield rushed Ulberg and Ulberg knocked him out in 12 seconds. It was a massive statement that saw Ulberg earn his way into the UFC rankings.

He wanted a quick turnaround and he’s definitely getting that and he’s getting a massive opportunity. Ulberg is now getting to fight a former champion on a Conor McGregor card. If Ulberg can knockout Jamahal Hill, his stock is going to the moon and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him be one of the next in line to challenge Alex Pereira for the light heavyweight title.
