In the featured prelim of UFC 280, we saw a battle in the welterweight division between two surging contenders. Sean Brady (15-0) was looking to remain unbeaten as he was taking on top contender Belal Muhammad (21-3, 1 NC).
Brady made his debut with the UFC back in 2019 and he’s been dominant ever since he stepped into the octagon. In his last performance, he used his superior grappling to handle Michael Chiesa. He was looking to do the same to Belal Muhammad.
Outside of Leon Edwards, nobody has been able to touch Belal Muhammad since 2019. If you take away his No Contest against the current champion, he’s 7-0. He was looking to make a statement that he’s ready for a title shot.
UFC 280 Recap
Round 1
The UFC 280 welterweight contest started with immediate pressure from Muhammad. Brady throws a few kicks to get things started. Nice pressure here from Muhammad and he lands a nice left straight. Both men trade check left hooks.
Low kick from Muhammad and a left from Brady. Nice overhand right from Muhammad. Low kick from Brady who looks really fast. Another nice low kick from Brady who then follows up with a 1-2. Body kick from Belal Muhammad.
Inside leg kick from Brady and then a body kick. Nice trade in the center and Brady looks to engage the grappling but nothing is there. Combination now for Muhammad. Big left hand from Brady. Another nice left from Brady lands. Right hand from Muhammad and a counter left from Brady.
Stiff jab from Muhammad. Beautiful boxing combination from Muhammad finished with an uppercut. Huge right from Brady but Muhammad answers right back with one of his own. Again they trade big shots in the center. Huge combinations and pressure at the end of the round for Muhammad. He likely takes the first at UFC 280.
Round 2
Entering the second at UFC 280 and this is a fun one. Muhammad immediately opens with pressure again. Powerful low kick from Brady. Left hook and a right hand now for Brady. Both men trade nice shots in the center.
Check left hook lands for Brady. Another clean left lands for Brady and a jab now. Front kick up the middle from Brady just misses. Left hand now for Brady who is really opening up. Right hand now for Muhammad. They trade lefts in the center.
Right hand for Brady and then Muhammad lands a counter. Now a big combination from Muhammad. Big shots land for Brady and he tries for a takedown attempt but nothing is there. Body kick now for Brady. Muhammad’s pressure is relentless though.
Another takedown attempt that Muhammad just shrugs off. Muhammad really opening up now on Brady. Huge right from Muhammad and Brady is hurt bad. Muhammad pouring it on and the referee stops it. Sean Brady is undefeated no longer.
