This past Saturday on the main card of UFC Vegas 66, we saw a big time lightweight matchup between the entertaining Bobby Green (29-14-1) and Drew Dober (26-11). Both men were looking for a big win on this stage to close out 2022.
For Green, he needed a big win after coming off suspension. Green was suspended for six months due to a failed USADA test, although, all indications are that he didn’t do anything to purposefully cheat. Nevertheless, he served the suspension and was coming back looking for a big win.
Drew Dober entered the contest on the heels of back-to-back knockout wins and he was looking to get near the lightweight rankings with another big win. That said, the fight didn’t start out well for Dober at all.
Bobby Green really controlled the first round with straight shots and clean counters. Dober’s face was getting busted up and Green was talking to him. The second round saw more of the same, but Dober started to land more and get closer with his power.
Then, just halfway through the round, Dober sent Green to the ground with a massive left hook. A couple of follow up shots and the ref called a stop to the fight giving Drew Dober the big TKO win at UFC Vegas 66.
What’s next after UFC Vegas 66?
After his big win, there were a couple of names on the mind of Drew Dober. One of those names was Paddy Pimblett. I will say this right now, the UFC is not going to give Drew Dober a fight with Paddy Pimblett. Dober knows this and alluded to it in the post-fight presser.
The promotion is going to protect Pimblett and after watching Pimblett a week earlier, I would pick Dober to win that fight by knockout. I would feel pretty comfortable in that pick as well. The other name on the mind of Dober was a fight with Jalin Turner.
Turner has five straight wins all by finish. A matchup between these two screams Fight of the Night and a performance bonus. Sign me up for this one now.
