This past Saturday in the co-main event of UFC Seattle, we saw a big time rematch in the women’s flyweight division. Former champion Alexa Grasso (17-5-1) was looking to bounce back while Maycee Barber (15-3) was looking to avenge her first loss to Grasso while continuing her winning streak.
These two first fought a few years ago with Grasso winning by decision. That said, the judges were not needed in this one. Just over halfway through the first round, Grasso cracked Barber clean with a left hand that put Barber out. Grasso hopped on a rear naked choke faster than you could blink and the referee immediately stopped the fight.
It was an emphatic statement and a violent finish by the former UFC flyweight champion. Now the question is, what’s next for her? I think it’s safe to assume that Natalia Silva is likely going to be the next challenger for Valentina Shevchenko’s flyweight title.
If that is the case, I think Grasso faces one of the other top two contenders who have already fought each other. Those contenders being Manon Fiorot and Erin Blanchfield. It seems extremely likely that Grasso will face one of those two in her next fight.
