MMA: UFC Fight Night-Seattle Grasso vs Barber

This past Saturday in the co-main event of UFC Seattle, we saw a big time rematch in the women’s flyweight division. Former champion Alexa Grasso (17-5-1) was looking to bounce back while Maycee Barber (15-3) was looking to avenge her first loss to Grasso while continuing her winning streak.

These two first fought in 2021 with Grasso getting the decision win. Since that loss, Maycee Barber had gone 7-0 inside the octagon and was knocking on the door of title contention. She entered the octagon as the betting favorite but it didn’t take long for the underdog bets to cash on Saturday night.

Just over halfway through the first round, Grasso cracked Barber with a clean left counter and Barber was out. Grasso did hop on the rear naked choke immediately but the referee pulled her off because Barber was out from the left. A devastating finish from Alexa Grasso at UFC Seattle halted the win streak of Maycee Barber.

What’s next after UFC Seattle?

Barber has already taken to social media and she seems in relatively good spirits after the loss. Losing to the former champion is nothing to be ashamed of and I really don’t think she loses a ton of ground with this loss.

In terms of what’s next, the UFC could look to re-book Barber against Rose Namajunas. These two were originally supposed to fight in 2024 before Barber had to pull out of the fight. With both coming off losses, it makes all the sense in the world to book this fight.

If that’s not in the cards, I could see Tracy Cortez being another option that they look at.
