In between losing to Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the World Cup and training with his professional club Paris Saint-Germain, French football star Kylian Mbappe enjoyed a breather and watched the Brooklyn Nets demolish the San Antonio Spurs Monday night at Barclays Center.
Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving did quick work of the Spurs, combining for 52 points on a 21 of 28 shooting night. After the game, Durant gifted Mbappe and his PSG teammate Achraf Hakimi with his Nets jersey.
Mbappe was warmly received in Brooklyn, earning a thundering ovation in the third quarter when he was shown on the jumbotron.
The 24-year-old football star and his PSG teammate were treated royalties and were given access to the Nets locker room after the game.
“Great game guys. Congratulations! It was really fun to watch. Good luck for the season.”

Jacque Vaughn, who beat his former mentor Gregg Popovich on Monday night and was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month the following day, lightened up the mood by flashing Kyrie Irving’s incredible in-game putback dunk.
The vibes in the Nets locker room have been the most jovial since Durant and Irving signed with the team in the summer of 2019.
With Brooklyn getting back into the title picture after their 12th straight win, their fans could only hope they won’t suffer the same fate that has befallen Mbappe in the World Cup, falling short in the championship match.
