New York Yankees: Who is Michael King?

New York Yankees, Michael King

While the Domingo German investigation continues, the New York Yankees have signed Michael King to the major league roster on Thursday. The 24-year-old has been in the minor leagues for four seasons and has had a great career so far.

“Pure joy,” King said about his emotions when being called up. “I had to immediately call my parents, I texted one of my buddies, it was just pure joy.”

King said he found out he was being called up when he was down in Tampa. He was in the weight room when one of his coaches came up to him and said, “You’re gonna get activated tonight for the big league team.”

The team’s number five ranked prospect is credited to a career 2.93 ERA and a 28-19 record, King is known for his below-average groundball rate. This season with triple-A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, King went 3-1 with a 4.18 ERA. He fanned 44 batters over 46 innings pitched and walked none.

The right-hander throws 92-95mph two-seam which is regarded as his best pitch. He also flashes a slider and a changeup which can be quality. King is known to have the best command out of all the New York Yankee pitching prospects.

The Yankees project him to be a back-end starter, but he’ll most likely find himself coming out of the bullpen which is usually the norm for young pitchers entering the show. He’ll be eligible to pitch during the postseason.

King was drafted in the 12th round during the 2016 draft by the Miami Marlins. The Yankees acquired him during 2017 that sent Garrett Cooper and Caleb Smith to Miami.

New York Yankees: Paxton Acquires his 10th-Straight Victory, Yankees’ Triumph 7-2

New York Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton

The definition of domination in two words: James Paxton. Paxton, who acquired his 10th-straight win on Saturday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays, performed with excellence. He pitched 6.0 solid innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs and struck out 7 batters on 87 pitches.

Paxton was not responsible for an earned run due to an error committed by Didi Gregorius in the top of the 3rd. Jonathan Davis took advantage of the mistake, driving in an RBI single and giving the Jays their first and only lead of the game.

Giancarlo Stanton and Mike Ford led the offensive force in the bottom of the 4th. Stanton crushed an RBI double to left field and Ford blooped an RBI single into center field, granting the Yanks with a 2-1 lead.

The offense picked back up in the bottom of the 6th, tacking on a 4-run rally. Stanton absolutely demolished a solo shot to left field, traveling 420-feet with an exit velocity of 111.5 MPH. Clint Frazier extended the lead with an RBI double to left field, followed by a 2-run single to right field off the bat of Kyle Higashioka.

Teoscar Hernandez recorded the last run for the Jays in the top of the 7th. Hernandez smoked an RBI double, cutting the deficit to a 4-run ballgame. Ford, who was scorching-hot at the plate, increased the lead back to 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th. With the speedy Cameron Maybin on 2nd base, Ford smashed in an RBI single to right field.

The bullpen, which consisted of Jonathan Loaisiga and Chad Green, closed out the rest of the game. Loaisiga pitched 2.0 innings and gave up 1 earned run and struck out 5 batters on 32 pitches. Green pitched 1.0 inning and struck out 3 batters on 15 pitches, sealing the deal. The New York Yankees now possess a 101-55 (.647) record and are just behind the Houston Astros in terms of acquiring home-field advantage.

New York Knicks: Bobby Portis May Become a Crowd Favorite at MSG

New York Knicks, Bobby Portis

The New York Knicks Might Have a new crowd favorite this upcoming season. The Knicks signed a 6’10” tall, high motor backup center Bobby Portis this offseason. This man is known to make winning intangible plays, and he refuses to back down from his opponents. Bulls fans loved Bobby Portis for the same reasons Knick fans will love and cheer him. Bobby Portis fits the new identity of the New York Knicks because he has heart and lays it all out every night. Bulls fans recognized his hard work and so did the Wizard fans during his very short stint in Washington DC.

The passionate Knick fans of MSG love hard-working hustlers who bring their lunch pales every single night. Similar to the Knicks of the 90’s era, a couple of guys that can score and a bunch of goons who just bring pain and intensity rounding out the rest of the roster sounds like an identity the Knicks are going for. Opposing players often say they love playing at MSG. However, when the Knicks go back to that gritty, physical, and stingy defense, the peaches and cream feeling of playing at MSG will disappear. Instead, opponents will dread the Knicks, which is what us Knicks fans want. Portis is part of the goon committee alongside Marcus Morris. Knick fans will love them both.

Bobby is slightly inconsistent yet skilled. He isn’t scared of big moments and he can knock down three-pointers. The wide-eyed center also possesses a decent mid-range game and pick-and-pop game. Portis is pretty good at finishing around the rim even though he lacks elite elevation.

New York Yankees: Domingo German won’t pitch again this season

New York Yankees, Domingo German

27-year-old Domingo German will not throw another pitch for the New York Yankees this season amid domestic violence allegations involving his wife, first reported by ESPN’s Buster Olney.

German is currently under administrative leave due to the allegations and will not return to the field until his case is resolved with Major League baseball, reported by ESPN.

German was reportedly seen slapping his girlfriend in a public setting following the series in Toronto.

“This is something that, baseball aside, this is a bigger issue, obviously,” said manager Aaron Boone. “When you hear the words ‘domestic violence,’ it’s one of those things that stops you in your tracks. I give Major League Baseball and the players’ association credit for doing their part in, several years ago, trying to be ahead of this and putting disciplinary action in place, hopefully being part of the solution to what is a problem in our society.”

Boone expected German to be a big part of the Yankees’ 2019 postseason campaign. They had big plans of him playing many roles.

The New York Yankees have only released this statement following the news:

“We fully support all measures being undertaken by the Commissioner’s Office pursuant to the Policy on Domestic Violence. We support this policy which reinforces that domestic violence has no place in our society and cannot be tolerated. We have followed the lead of Major League Baseball and will continue to provide our complete cooperation throughout the investigative process. We reserve any further comment until the investigation reaches its conclusion. All questions pertaining to this matter should be directed to the Office of the Commissioner.”

The New York Knicks May Have The Nucleus of a Very Good Defensive Team

New York Knicks, Kevin Knox

The New York Knicks assembled a group of tough hard-nosed young players. Scott Perry always kept the defense in mind when signing players to contracts. In the year 2000, Perry was hired by Joe Dumars for the Detroit Pistons front office executive position. Perry helped in assembling a roster for Detroit that went to six Eastern Conference Finals appearances, two Eastern Conference Championships, and most importantly, one NBA Championship. Defense definitely played a role in the winning ways of the Detroit Pistons during that Era. Will defense played a crucial role in the current Knick era under Scott Perry? The answer is yes, and the New York Knicks seem to have the nucleus of a very good defensive team.

The acquisition of Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, RJ Barrett, Bobby Portis, Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington, Reggie Bullock, Taj Gibson, and second-round gem Ignas Brazdeikis will have defensive potential under David Fizdale’s guidance. Even the young former Oregon Duck and shot-blocking extraordinaire Kenny Wooten are relishing his opportunity to possibly play for the Westchester Knicks. The newly acquired personnel is competitive. In addition to a Knick squad that already features Mitchell Robinson as the defensive terrorizer in the middle and Frank Ntilikina who’s pretty disruptive defensively for an entire 94-feet against opposing point guards, there are other young players on the roster with defensive potential like Kevin Knox and Allonzo Trier who completed an entire NBA season for the first time. Also, add Dennis Smith Jr. who might have the biggest chip on his shoulder going into next season. DSJ is also tough and shows aggression defensively. Experience defensively is extremely important for young players. This team will become dangerous once everybody gets acclimated to Fizdale and each other.

New York Giants: The End of the Eli Manning Era

New York Giants, Eli Manning

Tuesday morning the New York Giants announced that young Daniel Jones would be the teams starting quarterback for the Week 3 matchup down in Tampa Bay. With this news, Giants fans have likely seen the last of the Eli Manning tenure with New York.

A rather emotional for Giants fans to say the least. Excited to watch the future of the franchise in action, but also a taste of bittersweet memories. Seeing a number other than 10 under center on Sundays will for sure be difficult for Giants fans to watch at first. Manning, the quarterback for 15 years who hasn’t missed a single game to injury has certainly left his mark on this franchise. Helping the team to two Lombardi trophies, whole earning himself two Super Bowl MVP awards. Over these past 15 years, Eli has provided Giants fans with memories they for sure will never forget. From miraculously escaping a sack in Super Bowl 42 to sling the ball to David Tyree for the helmet catch, from perfectly dropping the ball into the breadbasket of Mario Manningham on the sidelines to help win Super Bowl 46, all the way to his first game-winning touchdown pass against the Broncos in 2005.

eOn a personal note, I cannot recall the last time Eli Manning wasn’t the starting quarterback for the New York Giants (besides the Oakland game in 2017). One of the toughest players to play the game of football. To never miss a game due to injury is an absolutely incredible mark that Eli Manning is the proud owner of. Eli Manning has proven to former general manager Ernie Accorsi and the New York fan base that trading for him was and forever will have been the right move. Accorsi the former general manager stated Tuesday after hearing about the news, I’ve been through the passing of the torch before with Johnny Unitas. This is a very difficult time for me, although I knew sooner or later it would come.

Eli Manning gave me the two greatest moments of my time in the National Football League. He will always be very special to me as will his two Super Bowl Championships”. Without a doubt, Giants fans will forever be proud and grateful for what Eli has brought to this franchise. 56,471 passing yards, 362 passing touchdowns,  2 Super Bowl rings, 2 Super Bowl MVPs, 4 Pro Bowls, and an absolute iron man. Manning is also one of five NFL players with multiple Super Bowl MVP awards. However, perhaps those accomplishments aren’t the ones that the Giants and their fans are most proud of.  Manning has brought in 150,00 kids a year to Manning Children’s Clinic, raises $25M as chair of New York, Marches for Babies, Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet member, a Make-a-Wish supporter, raised money by creating his own challenge in support of tackling kids cancer, a Classroom Cares ambassador and a 2017 NFL Man of the Year award recipient. Words will never be able to express the gratitude that the Giants fans and the city of New York have for Eli Manning. Thank you, Eli Manning. Thank you for it all Eli. Thank You 10.

New York Giants: Eli is the MANning

“Rather than carry the New York Giants, Eli Manning is hurting them right now”, “These Giants need Eli at his best — and he’s falling well short” are just a few headlines that swarm the internet and adorn local newspapers.  Negativity has been surrounding Eli Manning since the start of his career, but do people take the time to look beyond the field?

Manning certainly does not receive the recognition he deserves-on or off the field.  Manning has done various acts of kindness and has volunteered his time helping others.  However, instead of hearing about his philanthropic ventures, we instead are bombarded with a slew of stories discussing Eli’s blunders.  This should change.

We instead should be hearing about how each year Manning hosts a charity golf event or how he and his wife Abby raised $2.5 million for the Eli Manning Children’s Clinic.  Manning has also donated $1 million to Ole Miss, the college he and Abby attended. He also is a large supporter of and contributor to various charitable organizations including the March of Dimes.  And when Hurricane Sandy tore through the tri-state area and left New Jersey ravaged, Eli Manning, a resident of Hoboken, New Jersey was there to help and assist families affected. He was actively involved, discussing the extent of the damage with the mayor of Hoboken and visiting those who lost their homes to help them.  Manning also gave to local food pantries to ease the resident’s pain. This is just a small portion of what Manning does for the community. Also, Manning, father of four, visits kids who are afflicted with cancer and other deadly diseases on his own and in conjunction with Tom Coughlin’s Jay Fund. He always has a smile on his face and brings joy to those he meets.  And what’s even more amazing. is that he does all of the aforementioned acts of kindness without asking for any recognition. He does it out of the pure goodness of his heart, a trait quite admirable.

Manning is also an upstanding player.  Time after time, win, lose, or tie if any mistakes are made the one who takes the blame is Eli.  He never throws his teammates under the bus and always takes full responsibility. It’s certainly no wonder Manning has been captain for so long.  So instead of going into panic mode because two games have been lost in a row, let’s remember how the Giants started the 2007 season with two straight losses and then wound up winning Super Bowl 42 February 3rd, 2008 and how the Giants lost their 2011 season opener and lost four games in a row, eventually winning Super Bowl 46 February 5th, 2012.  Many seem to forget or neglect to acknowledge that Eli is a two-time Super Bowl champ.

Thank you, Eli, for all you have done for the Giants community and beyond!  You have been nothing short of great and we are all beyond appreciative for what you have contributed both on and off the field!  You are a class act and we have nothing but the utmost respect for you!

Dwelling in the past is not going to help win games.  The Giants can turn this season around. Let’s move onward and upward and prepare for the Buccaneers.  Now it’s time to support Daniel Jones and hope that he does well as we wish him the best of luck, but not forget about our rELIable Manning!  Manning is selfless and will continue to be a good leader for Daniel Jones in true Eli fashion. He truly has the heart of a Giant. Manning may not be a perfect ten, but no one is.

New York Knicks and Their Ultra-Athletic Front-Court May Cause Matchup Problems for Opposing Teams.

The New York Knicks athletic frontcourt is young and special. Not many teams have the type of personnel which allows them to run a pick-and-roll involving their power-forward and center. The Knicks possess that kind of talent in their front-court.

As the 2019-20 NBA season approaches, many speculate that Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle will be the Knicks front-court. Defensively Mitchell Robinson will terrorize his opponents at the rim and the three-point line. Randle defensively will benefit with Mitch Rob next to him. Offensively Mitch Rob will benefit with Randle next to him. A Randle to Mitchell Robinson lob will be tough for opposing defenses to stop but crowd-pleasing amongst Knick fans. Julius Randle also has a knack for making good reads and connecting with teammates with his excellent passing skills. Julius Randle is also very comfortable with bringing the ball up the court just like a point guard would. The Knicks newly acquired power forward will be a walking triple-double once he puts everything together. Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson complement each other on both ends of the court. If Julius Randle continues his improvement on his three-point shot, the sky is the limit.

The New York Knicks possess a high octane frontcourt with plenty of depth behind them in case they get into foul trouble or if injuries occur. Fizdale, of course, will take advantage of the depth by approaching each game with a goal of being aggressive on both ends of the court. Knicks have an ultra-athletic front-court and the Eastern Conference will get a taste of a young talented group sporting the orange and blue this upcoming season.
