Yankees place top prospect back on the IL after return to Triple-A

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at New York Yankees

The New York Yankees will place star prospect Jasson Dominguez back on the IL briefly after activating him, as the switch-hitter is dealing with an injury. The severity of the injury is unknown, but after being returned from his rehab assignment he finds himself back on the shelf with another issue. He had gotten off to a remarkable start with the RailRiders in his return to Triple-A, posting a 168 wRC+ and .639 SLG% through nine games, and this injury will present another setback.

We don’t know the injury yet, as the Yankees are very secretive with any information regarding prospect injuries and their severity.

This is an unfortunate situation for the Yankees, who lose another outfielder on their 40-man roster as Jasson Dominguez will find himself on the IL. It’s unclear how serious the issue is, and the placement on the 7-day IL isn’t much of an indicator that he’ll be back soon. For example, both Everson Pereira and Jorbit Vivas were placed on the 7-Day IL within weeks of each other, but Vivas returned to Triple-A a month later, and Pereira was revealed to have undergone Tommy John Surgery.

It’s unclear what happened to Jasson Dominguez, but this setback does sting for both him and the organization. He had been brilliant for the RailRiders, who are already extremely banged up with Caleb Durbin still rehabbing from his injury last month. This marks another top prospect on the IL for the Yankees, as Chase Hampton, Henry Lalane, and the previously mentioned players are all highly regarded in their system. The hope is that they don’t have to sideline Dominguez for long, but time will tell how bad this is.
