Yankees’ dominant pitching prospect with 100 MPH fastball earns Double-A promotion

The New York Yankees made an exciting promotion on Tuesday morning, as right-handed pitching prospect Carlos Lagrange has been informed that he will be promoted from High-A Hudson Valley to Double-A Somerset.

He has the highest K-BB% in all of High-A (31%) while sporting an overpowering fastball that sits 98 MPH and touches 101 on occasion.

Lagrange’s 4.10 ERA is misleading, as his 2.85 FIP and 2.61 xFIP displayed that he was pitching far better than the earned runs suggested, with bad defense and poor luck hurting his statline.

In our most recent top 10 update, we ranked Carlos Lagrange as our number four prospect in the Yankees’ organization and our number three pitching prospect.

After his brilliant start to the 2025 season, he’ll likely end up as the best pitching prospect in the Yankees’ farm system in our rankings, and that could become a consensus opinion across the baseball industry as well.

Carlos Lagrange has been utterly dominant for the Hudson Valley Renegades this season, as the Yankees’ High-A affiliate has been the home of some of their top pitching prospects.

The rotation has lived up to the hype thus far, and after receiving Griffin Herring from the Tampa Tarpons last week, they bid farewell to one of their many aces.

All accredited prospect outlets with top 100 rankings have placed George Lombard Jr. in their top 50s, but they have not ranked another prospect in the Yankees’ organization.

While guys like Ben Hess, Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz, Bryce Cunningham, and Cam Schlittler have all performed admirably. Carlos Lagrange has begun to take the prospect world by storm.

His dominant fastball at 98 MPH and wipeout sliders are devastating, and his changeup has put up ridiculous whiff numbers as well.

The biggest development for Lagrange is his command, cutting his walk rate by over 10% from 2024, developing to the point where you’re stunned to see him walk multiple batters in an outing.

Lagrange’s stuff is truly elite, and if his command continues to remain excellent, he could be a big leaguer in 2026 and become a true star in the Yankees’ rotation.
