On Sunday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees’ reserve third baseman Miguel Andujar curated another silly error from his former position. The Yankees have been trying to find a new place for Andujar since his struggles began at third base and continued, sticking him in left field to which he struggled earlier this season. He has since been a majority of his time as a designated hitter or pinch hits.

There’s a reason the Yankees don’t trust him in the infield, as he cut off Tyler weighed on a Pedro Severino ground ball to start the sixth inning at Camden yards on Sunday. Wade was in a better position to make the play, but Andujar took the advantage and fumbled the ball, causing an error.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone called him out for the failed play:

“If you are going to get the ball cleanly as a third baseman, you are going to go in front of the shortstop,’’ said Aaron Boone, a former big-league third baseman. “Anyway it is a play we have to make, obviously.’’

Andujar’s mistake is just another on a long laundry list of issues the Yankees are facing right now. Whether it be relief pitchers or inadequate starting performances, the Bombers desperately need an uplift one way or another. The team knows they are struggling badly, and the offense is a primary catalyst behind their inability to provide run support. Without runs, the Yankees simply put themselves in holes they can’t climb out of. For example, they have lost the last few games with a score of three or less. The last two losses to the Orioles, they scored just one run each — that is a recipe for failure.

The Yanks will face off against the Blue Jays on Monday in a three-game series and then will host Baltimore in the Bronx once again. They desperately need to turn things around and put a few wins on the board; otherwise they are in danger of missing the playoffs this year.
