New York Yankees: Yankees Call-Up Daniel Camarena

With a somewhat depleted pitching staff due to fatigue, the New York Yankees have selected the contract of reliever Daniel Camarena and will be recalling him from AAA.

The corresponding move is that Mike Ford will head back to Scranton.

Camarena, 26, was born in Bonita, California and will be making his MLB debut. The Railriders had used him as a starter, and Saturday was his scheduled day to pitch, meaning that he is available in Tampa assuming he has arrived from Pennsylvania.

They lefty was drafted in the 20th round of the 2011 MLB draft by the Yankees, but has bounced around a bit before returning to the Yankees. He has also seen time with the Rochester Red Wings, the AAA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins in 2019.

Camarena has a 6.01 ERA in 67 and 1/3 innings. That number is skewed due to one bad 12 run start earlier in the year, but has been much better of late. Managers haver much longer leashes on pitchers in the minors.

Saturday and Sunday will likely be his only two days on the Yankees for the meantime. The bullpen will be rested and Luke Voit will already be back after the all-star break.
