New York Yankees: The key to a World Series appearance relies on one significant player

Slugger mentality. That is the mantra the New York Yankees follow when it comes to producing offensive greatness. Trading for Giancarlo Stanton and making Aaron Judge the face of the franchise, all centers around home runs and pummeling baseballs hundreds of feet.

With intrasquad exhibition games becoming the focal point of Yankee baseball during a global pandemic, normalcy is a pipe dream. It could be months before life returns to normal, but some things remain constant in baseball and life.

The Yankees haven’t made a World Series appearance in over a decade, and they are fighting to do so in a condensed 60-game 2020 season. With Opening Day starting on July 23 against the Washington Nationals, we are going to be witnessing history. Evidently, the season will be talked about decades down the road and written in the history books.

The Bombers are considering this season as important as any other, and remaining consistent with their mentality towards success.

The key to World Series appearance for the New York Yankees:

Dealing with injuries has been a frequent reality for the team, as the starting outfield was projected to miss the start of the regular season prior to the MLB shutting down operations.

Aaron Judge, star slugger for the Yankees, was dealing with a stress fracture in a rib the past few months. No baseball allowed him to rehabilitate and recovery. His availability is essential for success. The expectation is that Judge will be available for the opener in a few weeks.

Over the last two seasons, Judge has missed 110 games. A wrist injury cost him 50 games in 2018, and a strained oblique forced him out for 60 games last season. The stress fracture on a rib also accompanied a punctured lung that has since healed. Mitigating injury is difficult in any professional sport, but Judge has individually been plagued since his dominant 2017 campaign.

Despite the time he has missed, Judge remains the face of the organization and the most marketable player. They have an entire section in Yankee stadium carved out for his likability. That suggests that the Yankees will, in fact, extend him on a massive deal. However, at 28 years old, management needs to see more production and reliability from him.
