New York Yankees: The Gio Urshela injury news we didn’t want to hear

The New York Yankees injury woes have not taken a backseat this season, as they are at the forefront of the league in players missing time. The latest Yankee to go down is infielder Gio Urshela. After missing a few games due to a bone spur in his right elbow a few days ago, Urshela has powered through and tried to lift his struggling team.

Nonetheless, the injury became too significant for him to bear any longer. The Yankees subsequently placed him on the 10-day injured list and right-handed pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga on the 10-day IL as well with a medical condition that is undisclosed.

At this point in the season, Urshela is one of the Yankees’ more productive hitters. He is currently batting .272 with six homers and 23 RBIs. Of course, his defense represents one of his best attributes, but his offense the past two seasons has been stellar and a major contributor to the Yankees’ success.

Urshela now joins a list composed of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, James Paxton, and more. Shortstop Gleyber Torres is set to return to the Yankees this weekend, following quad and hamstring issues.

The Bombers are coming off a disappointing loss in extra innings to the New York Mets (9-7 loss). They will face off against the Baltimore Orioles in a doubleheader on Friday and stay in Baltimore over the weekend.

They are on a seven-game away stretch before returning to the Bronx to complete against the Orioles on September 10.
