Tuesday’s game is a game that the New York Yankees would love to forget about soon.

Despite scoring 11 runs, the Yankees pitching couldn’t get it done along with an early error by Gleyber Torres that was very costly.

For the opening game of the series, the Yankees decided to go with a bullpen game with low leverage relievers. I think that Aaron Boone took the game too lightly, but the pitching still should of been better against a AAA caliber team.

Nestor Cortes Jr. started the game, giving up four runs. Luis Cessa followed and game up three runs, but a lot of runs between the two were due to the Gleyber Torres error. He dropped a ball at second on a double play ball that would of gotten the team out of the inning without a complete mess. The Tigers put up a six spot in the third inning.

It didn’t seem to matter who pitched because everyone seemed to give up runs. Cody Gearrin and Jonathan Loaisiga gave up runs, as well as Adam Ottavino late in the game. Chance Adams pitched the ninth, and gave up a walkoff single to end it.

On offense, the Yankees mashed six home runs. Didi Gregorius and Brett Gardner each had a pair of homers, and Gleyber Torres and Edwin Encarnacion each had one. Encarnacion is batting .281 since his return from the IL.

Mike Ford had an RBI single, and Tyler Wade drove in two with a triple.

DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge had the night off, while Luke Voit pinch-hit for Wade late.

The Yankees will look to turn it around on Wednesday when CC Sabathia returns off the IL. Domingo German has been moved to the bullpen to limit his workload and will likely follow Sabathia.

Matthew Boyd will be going for the Tigers, arguably their best pitcher this season. We likely should see the Yankees A lineup for the game.
