Major league baseball and the New York Yankees took a stand against racial injustice.  The Yankees standing on the baselines with a black drape laying on the ground took a knee to show support for the cause but stood for the National Anthem, no so for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Franciso Giants, some of them remained to kneel.

The New York Yankees Giancarlo Stanton make his own statement to start the first game of the 2020 baseball season.  With Aaron Judge on first base, he hit a monster 459′ home run to left field, to put Nationals starter, Max Scherzer, behind the eight ball before he even took the mound. Cole gave up a homer to Adam Eaton in the bottom of the inning.

At the top of the third inning, Aaron Judge doubled and drove in Tyler Wade from first base.  Wade showed his incredible speed, making it from first to home plate with blazing speed and making it 3-1 New York Yankees.

With the bases loaded in the fifth Giancarlo Stanton hit a single driving in a run for the Yankees 4-1 lead.  In the sixth inning, the skies opened up with very heavy rain and lightning flooding both dugouts.

Pitcher Max Scherzer had an impressive eleven strikeouts in the five innings he pitch, but he allowed three walks and couldn’t keep the Yankees from crossing home plate. Gerrit Cole, all though not appearing at his best, only allowed one hit in his five innings. Gerrit Cole showed the Yankees that even if he doesn’t have his best stuff, he can grind it out.  He did that for the Yankees last night.

As a side note, the first game of the baseball season was thrown out by infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci.  The pitch was bounced off-center to the catcher, showing that he might be a better doctor than a baseball pitcher.

The final score when the game was called and made official was New York Yankees 4 and the World Champion Nationals 1.  The next game will be played on Saturday and will feature the Yankees James Paxton against the Nationals Stephen Strasburg.  The game will be on the Fox Network at 7 pm.  The YES Network will have pre and post-game coverage.
