New York Yankees Place Slugger on 10-Day Injury List

There was a point over the offseason that the New York Yankees outfield was littered with talent, in fact, there was too much to pick from. Now, they’re down several starters and are being forced to dig into their reserves to fill positions.

Veteran Brett Gardner is filling in for the injured Aaron Hicks, hitting 1-13 with a mere single and two walks. Losing Hicks has influenced the offense significantly and now the team is down slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

The second-year Yankee will join the 10-day injured list with a left bicep strain.

Stanton is 2-for-8 at the plate with two singles, seven walks, and four strikeouts. While he hasn’t gone yard just yet, he’s been earning a ton of walks to get on base. Losing him for the next week and a half will hurt the Yankees as they try to rebound from a 2-3 series loss to the historically bad Baltimore Orioles.

The Yankees call on their fast bat:

Clint Frazier will fill Stanton’s position in left field. This spring, Frazier went 7-for-49 with 16 strikeouts. A dismal performance from Red Lightning, but his start in Triple-A ball has been better.

The Yankees lineup now looks something like this:

1. Brett Gardner, CF

2. Aaron Judge, RF

3. Luke Voit, DH

4. Miguel Andujar, 3B

5. Greg Bird, 1B

6. Gary Sanchez, C

7. Gleyber Torres, 2B

8. Troy Tulowitzki, SS

9. Clint Frazier, LF

Clearly missing several influential players, but this is what general manager Brian Cashman planned for – putting the pieces in place to withstand this type of injury concern.
