New York Yankees Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez are returning to the lineup on Friday. Sanchez has been out for about two weeks, while Gio was injured earlier this week.
Gary Sanchez
Scary Gary hasn’t played since September 12th with a groin injury. He had said that it was similar to the injury he had earlier this year. Sanchez has a .233 average with 34 home runs and 77 runs batted in.
The plan is for him to catch about five innings on Friday while getting two or three at-bats. We aren’t certain about the plan for the rest of the weekend.
Gio Urshela
Gio Urshela was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays after getting hit by a pitch. He was hit in the hand and it was significantly swollen. It looked like a sure break, but it tests came back negative.
Urshela sat on Wednesday and then the team was off on Thursday, so he’s had a few nights to recover.
Eddy Encarnacion
Edwin Encarnacion may or may not play this weekend. Aaron Boone said that he hasn’t “gotten over the mental hump” when it comes to his injury.
If he doesn’t play over the weekend, then he will have to get a ton of simulated at-bats next week. He would have four days of no games to get ready before the ALDS begins a week from tonight.
Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez are ready to return on Friday, but Edwin Encarnacion doesn’t have a set return date yet. It may not be until the postseason.
