After a handful of up-and-down starts after his IL stint, New York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German is back to normal and in his dominant form. Tuesday’s game against the Orioles was just another example of it.
Yes, I know it’s the Orioles, but German looked really sharp on Tuesday. He went seven strong, giving up just two runs off five hits, punching out seven. His pitching was good enough where the Yankees could avoid using high leverage relievers. The team let Adonis Rosa make his major league debut, and he pitched two solid innings in relief.
Between the fastball and the curve-ball, German never let batters get comfortable and made them keep guessing between the two. Both pitches were really good all night.
This is the fourth straight good start for German. He had two starts giving up three runs and one giving up two runs before Tuesday.
German’s win on Tuesday is the 16th of the season for him, and it leads the MLB. Him being the MLB’s first 16 game winner while missing a month just shows his dominance. He has just five starts without wins to his name (two losses, three no decisions).
The way that he has been pitching, he could be a strong candidate to start game one of the ALDS and game five if needed. Tanaka could have game two, Paxton in game three, and Sevy in game four if healthy and pitching well.
The Yankees have found a gem in Domingo German, and he will be dominant in the Yankee rotation for years to come.
