The MVP awards were released on Thursday, and to nobody’s surprise, Mike Trout won the award for a third time. Alex Bregman and Marcus Semien finished second and third. However, a pair of New York Yankees recieved votes.

DJ LeMahieu finished fourth with 178 votes, and Gleyber Torres finished 17th with eight votes.

LeMahieu, 31, had arguably the best season of his career in 2019. He bat .327 with 26 home runs and 102 RBIs, and was the leadoff hitter for the majority of the year. DJ was signed before the 2019 season on a 2 year/ $24 million deal but it’s likely that his contract will be extended if he expresses interest in staying. He had a 6.0 WAR, was voted to the all-star team, and won a silver slugger award.

Gleyber Torres’ second season in the majors was a very successful one. He hit .278 with 38 home runs and 90 RBIs. He was also voted to the all-star team and had a 3.9 WAR. Torres is under the Yankees control until 2025 when he can become a free agent. He has less than two years of service time and is still just 22 years old.

Both DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres had wildly successful seasons. The two players made significant impacts to the team and caught the attention of the national media. Both players have even more potential and I don’t know why both players can’t be even better next season.

On the national league side, Cody Bellinger won the award with Christian Yelich and Anthony Rendon finishing second and third. Peter Alonso and Jacob DeGrom of the Mets Also recieved votes.
