New York Yankees: CC Sabathia’s Possible Postseason Roles

Future hall of famer and New York Yankees lefty CC Sabathia made his final regular season home start on Wednesday, and sadly it didn’t go well. He went less than three innings, giving up five hits and two runs. He walked two but struck out four.

It’s really disappointing that CC’s final start didn’t go to plan, but he still remains optimistic about the last month of his career. He’s made it clear that he’s willing to be put in any role needed in the playoffs, starting or not. His clubhouse and dugout presence is huge and something that will definitely help the team in the playoffs.

Though optimistic about the rest of the season, we know that he’s disappointed about how the year went. Minus the milestones he’s achieved, 2019 has been a struggle for him especially with injuries. The Yankee Universe has been a huge part of why he’s kept going and they will continue to be behind him as his time as a major leaguer expires.

He Will Still Pitch In October

Though he has been struggling, there’s no reason why he can’t pitch in October.

He could open a game, pitch an inning or two and hand it off to a guy like Domingo German for a “piggyback start”. Or, he could piggyback off a guy like German or JA Happ to transition the game to high leverage relievers.

CC however shouldn’t be in for more than an inning or two or a full time through the opposing order. His first few innings and first time through the order is normally pretty decent, but the second time through can often get ugly.

Though he’s struggled in the regular season, CC Sabathia should still be pitching in October.
