New York Yankee News: MLB releases regular season schedule with inequities that may favor the Yankees

Just before the start of last night’s New York Yankees intrasquad game, MLB released the official team schedules for the 60 game season over 66 games.

Last night the Yankees had their first intrasquad game last night that headlined J.A. Happ and Clarke Schmidt starting the game. Both starters looked really sharp in the game that nearly had no offense.  New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman and retired pitcher CC Sabathia and two apparent scouts were the only humans in the stands.  The Yankees took the Bombers 1-0 in the game. Thairo Estrada provided the only run of the game with a homer to left-center.

The Yankees will start there season against the World Champion Washing ton Nationals. The scheduled pitchers will Gerrit Cole facing Max Scherzer. After that they will face Joe Girardi’s Philadelphia Phillies for three straight games, two at Citizen’s Bank Park and two at Yankee Stadium, for the only time the two teams will face each other in the regular season.

In this season’s schedule after the Phillies, the Yankees will then play the Boston Red Sox at the Stadium and will again go on the road to play the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays.  Back at the stadium, they will face the Atlanta Braves, Boston again and the Rays again. They will again go on the road to face their cross-town rival New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. The Yankees will finish the month playing the Mets and Tampa Bay back at the Stadium.

In September they will face the Orioles for seven games, the Toronto Blue Jays for ten games, Boston for another three games this time at Fenway Park. They will finish the season on the road at the Miami Marlins for three games ending on September 27th.

This unusual season will have several inequities, for instance with the Boston Red Sox they will have to play seven games against the New York Yankees at Yankees Stadium, and the Yankees will face the Red Sox only three times at Boston’s Fenway Park.  The graphic below shows some of the highlights in the coming baseball season.
