Aaron Judge signed a nine-year, $360 million contract with the New York Yankees on Wednesday morning, ending a months-long free agency pursuit that had Yankees fans anxiously waiting to see if he’d return or leave.
However, Tuesday was an anxiety-filled night for Yankees fans, as MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman falsely reported on Twitter that Arson Judge was headed to the San Francisco Giants. That’s right, Arson Judge.
After realizing the egregiously premature report that also saw Judge’s name spelt incorrectly, Heyman quickly backtracked and deleted the false tweet after learning that Judge had yet to make a decision regarding his free agency.
For the mere seven minutes that the original tweet was up, baseball fans went into a frenzy.
Yankees fans started panicking. Giants fans were excited, thinking that they successfully signed one of the best players of this generation to a long-term deal and took him away from the Bronx.
But many other fans were not happy at Heyman for falsely reporting on one of the biggest free agent signings in baseball history.
The blunder even got the attention of Giants pitcher Logan Webb, who also voiced his displeasure on Twitter about the blunder, as he surely thought that his team was signing the best free agent available on Tuesday.
However, along with many voicing their displeasure for a source they deemed as credible, many also took to social media and made memes and playful jokes surrounding the blunder.
Heyman went on to explain what led to the blunder late Tuesday night and held himself accountable for, in his own words, “jumping the gun.”
“I heard he was going to the Giants from a couple of people, so I thought it was good enough,” said Heyman.

While Yankee fans were surely uneasy when this first went down, they can now look back on this and laugh about it as Aaron Judge has confirmed that he is coming back to New York.
